What It Means to Be a Nonprofit Character Company

Fairytale Omaha isn’t just about fairytales — it’s about truth, too.
We’re often asked what it means that we’re a nonprofit. After all, there are a lot of companies out there that say they support nonprofit work — so what makes us different?
Here’s the short version:💫 We’re not donating to the cause. We are the cause.

✅ We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
We aren’t a for-profit LLC that can quietly disappear. We’re held accountable by the IRS, submit annual Form 990 filings, and operate with full financial transparency. That means anyone can see how our income supports our mission — not private pockets.
We don’t just claim to do good. We prove it.

🎭 We run like a mission-based theatre company
We’re not volunteers in store-bought costumes. We’re trained performers, singers, and educators. Every cast member is:
Background checked
Costumed in high-quality, custom-made attire
Trained in character performance, voice, and child safety
Covered by our company insurance at every visit
We maintain our own costume inventory, wigs, props, and craft supplies, and all of it is carefully cleaned, repaired, and restocked after each event.

🎂 Private events fund our public mission
When you book a Fairytale character for your birthday party, corporate event, or venue activation, you’re not just creating a special day — you’re helping fund:
Free visits to children in hospitals
Low-cost school and library appearances
Literacy programming, inclusive performances, and more
It’s joy with a purpose.✨ Real magic, real impact.

🧾 Where does your money go?
To the work itself.
To fair pay for cast members.
To maintaining costumes, materials, insurance, and outreach.
To bringing stories, songs, and smiles to kids who need them most.
And here’s something you might not expect: Our Fairy Godmother doesn’t take a salary. She runs this organization in her free time, fueled by a deep love for theatre, community, and ensuring every child gets to feel seen, special, and celebrated.
This isn’t a business built for profit. Running a nonprofit character company is a calling — and one we take seriously.
💜 We believe every child deserves wonder
Fairytale Omaha was founded on the belief that imagination shouldn’t be income-based. That’s why we work hard to keep our programming accessible — and why every private booking helps make our outreach possible.
We’re so grateful to the families, venues, and sponsors who help us do this work. You’re not just booking a princess or superhero. You’re joining a story that’s bigger than all of us.
